A Tragic Ethical Failure

Bush and the neoconservatives knew they had no clear hard empirical evidence that Iraq was a serious and imminent threat significant enough to warrant an invasion.

They ignored the many reasonable doubts expressed by the world's experts.

They knew that launching a massive military invasion would kill many thousands of innocent people.

They knew that sending our brave sons and daughters into battle was not necessary to protect America or other countries.

Therefore, they violated the ethical premise that we should never send our troops into harm's way unless it is truly necessary.

Bush's invasion was elective.   A just war is never elective!

The ends do not justify the means.  Even if, next week, Iraq turned into the most democratic and peace-loving nation the world has ever known, this would STILL not justify the illegal and unnecessary slaughter of roughly 10,000 innocent Iraqi people, as well as the deaths of many hundreds our troops.
